Glycerol and Catalysis by Waste/Low-Cost Materials—A Review

چکیده

The growing global demand for renewable energy sources can be reached using biofuels such as biodiesel, example. most used route to produce biodiesel is the transesterification reaction of oils or fats with short-chain alcohols, generating fatty acid esters (biodiesel) and a very important by-product, glycerol (Gly). Gly widely in different sectors industry, order add value this heterogeneous catalysis becomes relevant tool, whether transform into other chemical products interest even use it production catalysts. Among several studies found literature, low-cost materials and/or wastes from diverse activities prepare active catalytic transformation has been increasingly reported due its valuable advantages, especially related cost raw environmental aspects. Thus, brief review article presents relationship between catalysis, materials, waste, glycerol, through that show being transformed reactions catalyzed by produced sources/waste itself catalyst.

A Review of Aerogel Applications in Adsorption and Catalysis

Aerogels are a special class of porous material, which have excellent physicochemical properties such as low density, high porosity, high surface area and adjustable surface chemistry. Aerogels were first prepared several decades ago, but never truly commercialized due to their high cost. Technological advancements in the production and quality of different types of aerogel cut costs down and m...

Glycerol production by microbial fermentation: a review.

Microbial production of glycerol has been known for 150 years, and glycerol was produced commercially during World War I. Glycerol production by microbial synthesis subsequently declined since it was unable to compete with chemical synthesis from petrochemical feedstocks due to the low glycerol yields and the difficulty with extraction and purification of glycerol from broth. As the cost of pro...

The efficient desymmetrization of glycerol using scaffolding catalysis.

Glycerol is an ideal building block for the synthesis of complex molecules, because it is inexpensive and highly functionalized. We report the desymmetrization of glycerol through silyl transfer, using a chiral organic catalyst in high yield and enantioselectivity.

Catalysis in Perspective: Historic Review

Catalysis as a scientific discipline originated in the early part of the last century. Earlier, the unique feature of a catalytic substance, namely that when added in small quantities to a reaction it affects its rate and selectivity but is not consumed, had become widely recognized, and many applications had been developed. Only after chemical thermodynamics had been defined did a rational app...

A Cost Effective Fermentative Production of Glutathione by Saccharomyces cerevisiae with Cane Molasses and Glycerol

This work aimed to evaluate the effect of sugar cane molasses and glycerol on glutathione (GSH) fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATCC 7754 in flask culture using response surface methodology. Under optimized conditions (80 g/L of molasses and 60 g/L of glycerol), the highest GSH and biomass concentration achieved were 119.6 mg/L and 25.3 g/L, respectively. Further studies done in 5 L bi...
